Gothic Armour Set
This bestselling armor set includes Epic Armoury’s Gothic Half Armour, Gorget & Shoulders, Arm Protection and Leg Protection in order to fully gear your costume needs at a lower cost. Each piece is made from mild steel with rolled edges and full grain leather straps and fittings, built to withstand the abuse of a LARP or reenactment while keeping the user safe and comfortable. With regular leather and metal armor care, you can expect this armor set to last for a long time!
The Gothic Armour Set consists of:
- The Gothic Half Armour features front and back plates, faulds and tassets. The breastplate has a central crease and ridges around the rim. The matching breast and backplates extend below the abdomen, connecting to the tassets beneath the protection of the faulds: a series of overlapping, modelled metal plates protecting the weak spots at the pelvis
- The Gothic Gorget & Shoulders is designed to provide protection for the throat, neck and shoulders with the two-piece gorget and two shoulders. The gorget covers the thorax to the sternum and is furnished with several ridges and two large octagonal besagues (round metal shields) to protect the notoriously under-armored armpits from arrow strikes. The shoulders are composed of articulated spaulders covering the shoulder joint and upper arms, reinforced with large pauldrons sculpted to look like dragons wings to further protect the armpits. The shoulder plates are strapped on at the gorget and around the upper arms
- The Gothic Arm Protection is a set of steel elbow cups or couters, designed to protect the elbow joints. The elbow cups are reinforced with ridges, and have a large V-shaped flange to deflect blows away from the elbows
- The Gothic Leg Protection consists of cuisses to protect the lower thighs, articulated poleyns covering the knees, and half demi-greaves protecting the upper shins and sides of the calves. The poleyn knee cups are articulated, composed of four overlaying plates and fitted with a projecting heart-shaped plate adding cover to the notoriously under-protected hamstring
History
- Gothic style historically developed in the 1420-1440s thanks to technological advances
- Characterized by the curves, flutes and ridges, which strengthened the armor and deflected projectiles
